The Square Emile Pereire occupies a long, narrow strip of land created directly over the path of an old railway line. It is lined with rows of uniform young trees and paved paths that follow the exact route the trains once took toward the Gare du Nord. Emile Pereire helped build the first railway in France, and this park now marks the physical scar left by that industrial expansion. The tracks are gone, and benches now sit where commuters once waited for steam engines.
