Petite ceinture du 18ème

The Petite Ceinture in the eighteenth arrondissement appears as a sunken, overgrown trench, cordoned off by high rusted fences and reclaimed by wild grasses. This double track of iron rail once looped around Paris, carrying freight and passengers from eighteen fifty-two until nineteen thirty-four. When the city subway expanded, the ring became obsolete. In nineteen eighty-four, the legendary street artist Jef Aerosol climbed down to paint a portrait of Salvador Dali on the concrete walls, hidden away from the world above.
