The war memorial in the Place Gabrielle Leclerc features a tall, slender limestone pillar topped by a bronze mourning figure. It lists the names of soldiers from Charenton-le-Pont who died in the two world wars. The sculptor, Alfred-Alphonse Bottiau, designed the piece to mark the heavy toll taken on the town’s families. Each name carved into the stone represents a local household that lost someone, turning the monument into a permanent record of the families who lived here in the early twentieth century.
