The Alexandra David-Neel Garden is a compact, fenced-in patch of greenery tucked into a residential street in Saint-Mandé. It surrounds the modest house where the legendary explorer lived from nineteen twenty-eight until her death in nineteen sixty-nine. Most visitors notice the weathered stone walls and the thick canopy of trees that keep the property quiet despite the nearby traffic. Inside this house, David-Neel spent years drafting her accounts of forbidden travel in Tibet, surrounded by artifacts she carried back across the Himalayas.
