The Shizuoka Press and Broadcasting Center features a central concrete pillar, thirteen inches in diameter, from which individual office modules hang like boxes. Architect Kenzo Tange designed the tower in nineteen sixty-six to accommodate future expansion, allowing additional capsules to be plugged into the core as the media company grew. Inside the lobby, a frantic young journalist once famously tried to interview a visiting director, only to be told that the building itself was the only news worth reporting that day.
