Hibiya Okuroji

The brick arches of Hibiya Okuroji support the train tracks running high above the street. This narrow corridor stretches for three hundred meters between the Yurakucho and Shimbashi stations, occupying space that once served as a forgotten maintenance passage. Construction crews originally laid these red bricks during the Meiji era to stabilize the railway embankment. Today, the rusted iron beams and weathered masonry frame a row of high-end boutiques and quiet bars, tucked into the shadow of the passing commuter trains.
