MIKIMOTO Ginza Main Store

other

The Mikimoto Ginza Main Store stands out for its curved, lattice-like facade that looks like a delicate mesh of white coral. This is the birthplace of the cultured pearl. In eighteen ninety-three, Kokichi Mikimoto succeeded in creating the world's first semi-spherical cultured pearl on Ojima Island. He opened his first shop in Ginza soon after, bringing a process that once relied on rare natural accidents into a controlled, repeatable craft. The current building holds the legacy of that initial, risky experiment.
