Emperor Franz Joseph the First visited during his nineteen sixty-nine tour of the Middle East, cementing its status as an outpost of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The building remains property of the Catholic Church in Vienna, and it continues to operate as a guesthouse for travelers just as it did for nineteenth-century pilgrims.
