The Treasury

The Treasury facade is carved directly into the sheer, rose-colored sandstone cliff, standing nearly forty meters tall with elaborate Corinthian columns and weathered figures of mythological twins. King Aretas the Fourth commissioned this monument in the first century, intending it as a royal tomb rather than a bank. Local Bedouin tribes once believed an Egyptian pharaoh hid gold inside the stone urn at the very top, leading many to fire rifles at the carving for generations, hoping to shatter the vessel.
