Café De Tacuba

The Cafe de Tacuba occupies a seventeenth century building with heavy dark wood doors and vibrant talavera tiles covering the walls. Originally, this space served as a convent for the Order of Saint Clare. In nineteen twelve, Dionisio Mollinedo opened the restaurant here, choosing to keep the religious architecture intact. A century later, a fire gutted the back dining room, but the staff managed to save the original paintings of the viceroys, which still hang in the high-ceilinged rooms today.
