Yangaa Hiti, यंगा हिटी

The sunken stone square of Yangaa Hiti sits below the street level, marked by a carved stone waterspout that channels a steady, mountain-fed stream. This is a traditional stone water conduit, a type of infrastructure that allowed Kathmandu residents to access groundwater for centuries. Local legend says that when the water flow once stopped, a priest dreamed that a secret channel had been blocked by an earth tremor, and he successfully located the obstruction to restore the supply for the entire neighborhood.
