Wertheimpark

Wertheimpark is the oldest public park in Amsterdam, marked by a tall, iron gate that remains slightly ajar. Abraham Wertheim, a prominent banker, donated the land to the city in eighteen seventy-five. Before he provided the space, the ground served as a private garden for the residents of the surrounding canal houses. During the nineteen forties, the park became a secluded site for resistance members to meet, hidden by the thick canopy of trees while the city outside shifted under occupation.
