SS Rotterdam

The SS Rotterdam sits in the Maas River, defined by two massive, swept-back white funnels that tilt toward the stern. Known as the Grande Dame, she was the flagship of the Holland America Line, launched in nineteen fifty-eight to carry passengers across the Atlantic. When she retired from service, she underwent years of uncertainty and stalled renovation projects. Today, the ship rests permanently in Rotterdam as a hotel and museum, preserving the mid-century modern aesthetic of her original transatlantic voyages.
