Erasmusbrug

The Erasmusbrug carries a single, bright blue pylon that leans back at an aggressive angle, tethered by thick steel cables that fan out like the strings of a harp. It connects the historic city center of Rotterdam to the newer Kop van Zuid district across the Meuse river. When it opened in nineteen ninety-six, the structure earned the nickname the Swan because of its graceful, curved neck. It remains one of the few bridges in the world designed with a bascule section for large ships.
