Oudehaven

The Oudehaven features a dense cluster of yellow cube houses tilted at forty-five-degree angles, creating a jagged, bright profile against the harbor water. This harbor served as the birthplace of Rotterdam in the fourteenth century, acting as the primary trade link for the city. During the air raids of nineteen forty, almost every building here vanished. Architect Piet Blom later designed these cube structures to resemble trees, forming an urban forest intended to bridge the gap between residential living and the active port.
