De Vlechten - Kalliopi Lemos

monument

The sculpture titled De Vlechten shows two giant, bronze hands braided together, rising six meters into the air. Kalliopi Lemos created this piece to occupy the square in the Cool district of Rotterdam. The tangled, oversized fingers hold a tension that feels heavy, yet the material suggests a permanent, calm connection. Passersby often stop to walk between the bronze wrists, where the negative space creates a frame for the city. These hands remain a quiet anchor for everyone passing through the square.
