Statue 'Unbroken Resistance' by Hubert van Lith

The Unbroken Resistance statue features a muscular, bronze male figure standing defiantly with his hands bound by chains. Hubert van Lith created this monument to honor the Dutch resistance fighters who stood against the German occupation during the second world war. It occupies the site of the former Coolsingel Hospital, which was destroyed during the heavy bombardment of Rotterdam in May nineteen forty. The figure captures the moment of struggle, his strained posture reflecting the spirit of those who opposed the regime.
