The bronze sculpture Elevazione reaches toward the sky with the twisted, textured form of a pine tree that seems to grow directly from the pavement. Cast from a real tree, the work captures every knot and irregularity of the bark in metal, while bronze branches extend upward to support a smaller, living pine tree nestled in the crown. Giuseppe Penone created this piece to dissolve the boundary between the natural world and the urban environment, forcing a dialogue between organic growth and permanent bronze.
