FENIX

The FENIX building is a long, concrete warehouse stretching along the Rijnhaven quay with a sharp, spiraling metal staircase emerging from its roof. This structure served as the primary departure point for the Holland-America Line, where millions of migrants boarded ships for North America during the early twentieth century. Albert Plesman, the founder of KLM, once worked here as a clerk, processing the paperwork for thousands of hopeful travelers before they disappeared across the Atlantic. Today, the building houses a museum dedicated to that migration.
