The Las Palmas building features a jagged, sawtooth roofline and a deep red industrial brick facade that marks it out from the glass towers of the Kop van Zuid. Designed as a warehouse for the Holland-America Line in nineteen oh eight, it stored suitcases and personal belongings for migrants waiting to board ships bound for New York. The architect, Cornelis van Traa, included those distinctive roof teeth to pull natural light deep into the massive, open floor plates where dockworkers once sorted thousands of trunks.
