BearPark

cultural

The Dürrenmatt family once kept bears in a pit at this spot, a tradition that stretches back to fifteen thirteen. Today, the Bärenpark ditches the cramped concrete floor for a sloping, tree-covered hillside leading down to the Aare River. Björk and Finn, the resident brown bears, roam the grass, swim in the pools, and climb the trunks. They operate under a strict schedule, disappearing into their dens whenever they prefer to avoid the public eye.
