Münsterplattform Bern

The Münsterplattform is a stone terrace suspended above the Aare River, marked by its sharp drop and the heavy iron railing that separates the city from the steep ravine. Built in the fifteen hundreds as a churchyard for the cathedral, it became a public promenade where residents gathered to watch the river water churn against the cliffs. In eighteen forty-six, a young girl named Anna Engel fell from the terrace wall into the abyss but survived when her wide skirts caught the wind.
