The Kindlifresserbrunnen features a stone giant sitting on a pedestal, actively stuffing a squirming, naked child into his mouth. Bags filled with more terrified children hang from his belt, and others wait at his feet. Built in fifteen forty-six, this fountain replaced an older wooden structure. While the origin of the name remains debated, it likely served as a warning to the children of Bern. Some suggest the giant represents a Krampus figure, while others see a harsh depiction of a local bogeyman.
