Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen

The Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen features a painted stone figure of Lady Justice standing atop a tall column, blindfolded and holding a sword and scales. She towers over the center of the street, carved by Hans Gieng in fifteen forty-three. During the protests of nineteen eighty-six, activists toppled the statue and smashed it into pieces on the cobblestones. They claimed the figure represented a corrupt state. Restoration teams later painstakingly glued the shattered fragments back together, and she returned to her pedestal two years later.
