Abbey Green features a plane tree in its center that grows out of a raised stone bed. This small, cobble-paved square sits in the shadow of Bath Abbey, tucked away from the main thoroughfares. In the eighteenth century, the area served as a bustling hub for the city’s burgeoning spa trade. Legend says the square was a site for public executions, though most historians point to its role as a quiet marketplace where traders sold fabrics to wealthy visitors arriving for the mineral waters.
