North Parade Bridge

The North Parade Bridge features a single, sweeping cast iron arch spanning the River Avon. It replaced a precarious ferry crossing that served residents for generations. In eighteen thirty-six, the Bathwick estate owners commissioned the structure to connect their new residential developments directly to the city center. The engineer William Tierney Clark designed it to handle increasing traffic. It stands today as a rare surviving example of his early nineteenth century work, still carrying vehicles and pedestrians across the water as originally intended.
