Parade Gardens

A wrought iron fence separates the manicured lawns of Parade Gardens from the churning waters of the River Avon. This riverside park sits atop the old ferry crossing that linked the city to the abbey fields. In the eighteen twenties, the city council transformed the neglected space into a private pleasure ground. For years, visitors paid a penny at a turnstile just to walk the paths. Now, the park keeps its Victorian identity through the floral clock and a terrace overlooking Pulteney Weir.
