Gambier Terrace

Gambier Terrace consists of a row of fourteen tall, neoclassical houses built of sandstone, characterized by their severe, uniform facades and cast-iron balconies. Completed around eighteen thirty-seven, these homes were designed for the wealthiest merchants in Liverpool who wanted to overlook the city from the heights near St. James’s Mount. During the Second World War, the street became notorious when John Lennon lived at number three for a short time, briefly sharing the cramped space with Stuart Sutcliffe and his girlfriend.
