Maritime Museum

The Merseyside Maritime Museum sits inside the Albert Dock, recognizable by the massive, red-brick warehouse blocks with their sturdy, cast-iron columns. These warehouses once held tea, silk, and tobacco, but in nineteen eighty-four, the building reopened to tell the history of the port. During the second world war, the docks were a primary target for German bombers. A heavy bomb once smashed through the roof of this very warehouse, leaving the iron structure warped and scarred, a reminder of the city's fight.
