St Luke’s Bombed Out Church

The jagged, roofless stone walls of Saint Luke’s Church stand open to the Liverpool sky. Built in the early nineteenth century, the structure survived over a hundred years of services before a German incendiary bomb tore through the interior in nineteen forty-one. The fire gutted the church, leaving only the hollowed-out shell. Instead of clearing the site, the city left the charred walls standing as a permanent memorial to the night the city burned. Ivy climbs the blackened, empty window frames.
