North Western Hall

The North Western Hall is defined by its sweeping, curved facade of red brick and terracotta that hugs the corner of Lime Street. Completed in eighteen seventy-one, it served as a grand hotel for passengers stepping off trains at Lime Street Station. When the hotel closed, the building sat empty for decades, occasionally acting as railway offices. An architect named Alfred Waterhouse designed it to match the station, but he included enough ornamental detail to remind travelers they had arrived in a major city.
