Everton Lock-up

The Everton Lock-up sits on the hill as a stout, circular stone tower topped with a spiked weather vane. Built in seventeen eighty-seven, this little building served as a temporary cage for local troublemakers, drunks, and those awaiting trial at the courthouse. It earned the nickname Prince Rupert’s Drop because local legend insists the Royalist commander stayed there during the English Civil War, even though the building was constructed over a century after he left.
