The Grapes

food drink

The Grapes on Mathew Street wears a faded, dark facade that makes it appear squeezed between its much larger neighbors. Inside, the pub retains a cramped, wood-paneled atmosphere that feels anchored in the early nineteen sixties. During that era, the bar served as a regular waiting room for a young band named the Beatles. They performed at the nearby Cavern Club, but the venue did not have a liquor license, so the group spent their intermissions here nursing pints in the back room.
