Exchange Flags

Exchange Flags sits at the heart of Liverpool, distinguished by a massive, hollowed-out square of Portland stone that dwarfs the surrounding streets. This was the site of the original seventeen hundreds Exchange, where merchants gathered to trade cotton, sugar, and tobacco. In nineteen oh six, the current grand structure replaced the older buildings, designed to project the wealth of the British Empire. During the Second World War, a German bomb struck the square, killing several people and shattering the grand glass windows.
