Steble Fountain

monument

The Steble Fountain features eight bronze mythological figures that stand in a circle around a central tiered structure. This cast iron monument arrived in William Brown Street in eighteen seventy-nine as a gift from Lieutenant Colonel Richard Fell Steble. He served as the mayor of Liverpool and wanted to donate a piece of public art to the city. Its construction relies on a design that originally appeared at the Paris International Exhibition a year earlier, where it attracted the attention of local officials.
