The Ulu Factory features a bright red roof and a sign depicting an ulu, the traditional curved knife used by Alaska Native peoples for centuries. Inside, workers assemble these knives by hand, securing wooden handles to stainless steel blades. During the nineteen seventies, the factory began mass-producing the tool to meet demand from travelers who wanted an authentic souvenir. It remains the primary spot in Anchorage where visitors watch the assembly process, from the initial blade stamping to the final sharpening.
