Amoeba Music

The two-story building on Sunset Boulevard holds a jagged, sprawling roofline that resembles a folded paper crane. It houses the world’s largest independent record store, Amoeba Music. The shop started in Berkeley in nineteen ninety, but when it moved into this space in two thousand one, it converted a former bowling alley into a sanctuary for millions of vinyl records and compact discs. Paul McCartney once played a surprise set in the middle of the floor here for a few hundred lucky shoppers.
