Larsen Park

The two massive, sunken concrete swimming pools at Larsen Park define the landscape. They replaced the original wooden bathhouse that opened in nineteen twenty-four, a structure built on shifting sand dunes that eventually caused the foundation to crack and slide. After the city demolished the failing bathhouse, they constructed these deep, wind-shielded basins. For decades, the site served as a swimming hub until the city drained the water for good in the mid-seventies, leaving the empty, cavernous concrete shells behind.
