Santa Barbara Winery

other

The long, narrow building on Anacapa Street features a painted wooden sign and a quiet, industrial exterior that hides the origins of the modern Santa Barbara wine industry. Pierre Lafond opened this doors in nineteen sixty-two, becoming the first person to establish a commercial winery in the county after Prohibition. He chose the downtown warehouse space to be close to the local harbor and the residents of the city, bringing the process of winemaking directly into the urban center for everyone to see.
