The wooden porch and gravel courtyard of Blue Heaven are shaded by large almond and mango trees, with rusted metal roof sheets and mismatched chairs scattered about. This spot occupies what was once a notorious neighborhood known as Bahama Village. In the nineteen thirties, the yard hosted Friday night boxing matches refereed by Ernest Hemingway, who lived nearby. Locals climbed the trees to watch fighters trade punches while chickens and cats roamed the dirt floor, long before the area became a restaurant.
