Bishop Albert Kee Statue

A bronze figure of Bishop Albert Kee sits on a stone bench in the garden, wearing his clerical robes and holding a Bible. Known as the founding pastor of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Key West, Kee arrived in the eighteen seventies to serve a community of laborers who had recently migrated from the Bahamas. He spent forty years leading his congregation, often using his own meager salary to help members pay for housing or medicine during the island’s frequent yellow fever outbreaks.
