The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory

The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory features a tall, glass-enclosed atrium that captures the subtropical light of the island. Inside, hundreds of butterflies fly freely among flowering plants, koi ponds, and several captive tropical birds. Sam Harris and George Fernandez opened this habitat in two thousand three to bring a slice of a rainforest environment into the city. They carefully manage the temperature and humidity to ensure the butterflies remain active, creating a climate that differs sharply from the street outside.
