Green Parrot Bar

The Green Parrot Bar occupies a wedge shaped building on the corner of Whitehead and Southard streets, easily spotted by the faded green paint and the rows of stools spilling onto the sidewalk. Originally opening in eighteen ninety-six as a grocery store, the space shifted into a saloon for cigar makers and sailors. During the nineteen seventies, the owner, Jim Bean, let the place fall into a state of benign neglect, allowing it to become a refuge for poets, musicians, and locals.
