The Rodriguez Cigar Factory occupies a building painted with bright, horizontal stripes that make it stand out against the weathered wood of the surrounding Seaport. This is the last active cigar factory in Key West. Danny Rodriguez started the operation in nineteen eighty-four, keeping alive a trade that once defined the island’s economy. His family rolls cigars by hand, using Cuban-seed tobacco grown in Nicaragua, following the same methods cigar makers used here in the eighteen eighties.
