Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach

The Moana Hotel features a neoclassical white facade and a porte-cochere that stretches toward the street. It opened in nineteen oh one as the first hotel in Waikiki, replacing a private residence. During its construction, the owner, Walter Peacock, insisted on an elevator, which became the first one installed in any hotel on the islands. When the doors opened, guests paid one dollar and fifty cents a night to stay in rooms that featured private baths and long-distance telephones.
