The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, Waikiki

The Royal Hawaiian hotel is a distinctive structure painted a striking shade of bubblegum pink, earning it the nickname the Pink Palace of the Pacific. When it opened in nineteen twenty-seven, it replaced a smaller hotel to accommodate wealthy passengers arriving on steamships from the mainland. During the second world war, the United States Navy leased the entire building to house sailors and officers on leave. Thousands of servicemen occupied these rooms before the hotel returned to civilian use in nineteen forty-seven.
