Waikiki Circle Hotel

other

The Waikiki Circle Hotel stands out because of its shape. It is a perfect, twelve-story cylinder rising directly above the sidewalk on Kalakaua Avenue. When it opened in nineteen sixty-five, this circular design allowed every single guest room to offer an unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean. Its architect, Pete Wimberly, specifically chose this drum-like structure to maximize the limited footprint of the plot. He built a vertical tower where others might have struggled to fit a traditional block.
