Queen Kapiʻolani Hotel Waikīkī Beach

The Queen Kapiʻolani Hotel wears a mid-century silhouette of poured concrete and stacked balconies that rise above the southern edge of Waikīkī. When it opened in nineteen sixty-eight, the tower reached for the skyline, bearing the name of the Hawaiian queen who once held court nearby. Architecturally, it holds onto a period of rapid development that transformed the beachfront. Inside the lobby, a massive mural by artist Jerry Wilkerson depicts the life of the royal namesake, spanning over thirty feet of wall space.
