The College Club of Boston occupies a five-story brownstone townhouse on Commonwealth Avenue, identified by its crisp limestone trim and the heavy, wrought-iron balcony railings. Built in eighteen seventy-one, the building originally served as a private residence for the family of a wealthy shipping merchant. In nineteen twenty-six, the club members purchased the property to host lectures and provide a gathering space for college-educated women. The original mahogany staircase remains inside, connecting rooms where members once challenged the city’s social conventions.
