The building at one hundred three South Street features a distinct, rounded corner turret wrapped in rust-colored brick and heavy stone trim. This structure rose in eighteen ninety-nine, designed by the firm Peabody and Stearns to serve as a warehouse for the thriving leather trade. For decades, men hauled heavy hides through the ground floor loading bays while offices filled the upper levels. Today, the building holds apartments, but the massive arched windows remain as permanent reminders of the area's industrial past.
